Remember beautiful yesterday?
Today, it rained all day and when I drove home it was 13C. There is a fire in the wood stove tonight as I’m heating up some tomato and basil risotto. It was just a tease yesterday after all. As they say, welcome to Dunedin.
Sometimes, if I’m housebound (I’m on call tonight, and in any case the weather is fun prohibitive) I’ll find something interesting on Netflix to watch while I’m eating dinner. Hey, it’s company. Technically, you can’t watch Netflix here (international license agreements and what-not), but thank goodness for curious and enterprising software engineers; there is a work around and it’s brilliant (Pandora, too). I’m not usually one of those people who say, “You HAVE to watch this show!”…but tonight I watched ‘Derek’, with Ricky Gervais, and while you don’t HAVE to watch it, I highly recommend it. It’s not ’24’ or ‘House of Cards’; it’s about a nursing home. It takes a brave man to produce a show about a nursing home, but the show is a gem. It’s particularly poignant, for me, because I care for so many elderly people. Tomorrow, I’ll talk a bit about caring for the elderly (both here in Nz and back in California) and watching Derek might be a good primer. Consider it homework.
Can’t drink any wine tonight, but I promise another pinot nior discussion tomorrow to go along with the post. Now, which pinot goes well with grey (hair)?
Cheers,
Yes I have to agree Derek is a fantastic show, full of laughs but also heart warming – The risotto by a fire sounds like the perfect match!
It was a good match, to be sure. It needed wine, but my hands were tied. Next time.
Cheers,
